Golf Baseball

I have been playing this game now for over 7 years with children of all ages! Everyone seems to enjoy playing Golf Baseball. The kids really take to it because it helps them to relate golf to an athletic sport where they can run around. It’s a shift away from the typical range practice (beating balls) and can be used as a way to break up the practice/activities (putting, short game and full swing) in a standard junior golf camp. In addition, this is an excellent game for children of all ages and abilities to think of golf as a team sport.

Rules of the game:

  • Each player will bat with the same large plastic club
  • Place the Nerf ball on the ground, between and behind the 2 home teeing ground cones
  • Batters use their full golf swing to hit the ball into play
  • Once contact is made they begin to round the bases
  • The batter/runner must stop when the ball is returned to the pitcher.
  • Outs can only be made by Catching a Fly Ball
  • The pitcher cannot field the ball. He is only allowed to catch a fielders pass to stop the runner. The pitcher determines how far the runner may advance. If the batter/runner is more than halfway between cones, when the pitcher catches the ball he advances to the next base. If not, he must return to the previous cone or base. ***The pitcher/pro is the umpire and referee of the game
  • Three outs per inning, a 3-6 inning game depending on time
  • ***You can also have a home teeing ground umpire to instruct the batters.
  • All other rules… see traditional baseball
  • In order to enjoy Golf Baseball safely these are a list of things that are NOT ALLOWED:

    - Sliding

    - Forced outs (pickles, etc.)

    - Throwing the plastic bat/club

    - Bunting

Equipment needed:

  • 50 x 50 yard grass practice area
  • 6 small orange cones = bases
  • Round miniature foam Nerf Style (about softball size)
  • Oversized plastic lofted iron Monster Golf Wedge

It is essential that you use a soft Nerf like ball for safety purposes.
